Using Virtualhere with USB RTL-SDR dongle

Hello to all,

I have a problem using Virtualhere with a USB RTL-SDR dongle. I try to explain my experience.

- I installed a Virtualhere server evaluation copy on a rasperry PI 3 and on a linux computer - I insert an USB RTL-SDR dongle at first on raspberry then, as a second test, on the Linux computer.
- From the other side I installed a Virtualhere client copy on a Windows 10 computer and used a SDR software to play whit my dongle.

As a result In both cases I can control my dongle without problem but audio is intermittent

I performed another test.

- I used a Virtualhere server evaluation copy on a rasperry PI 3 and I inserted my USB RTL-SDR dongle on it
- From the other side I installed a Virtualhere client copy on the Linux computer and used a SDR software to play whit my dongle.

As a result I can control my dongle without problem but audio is still intermittent

Finally I decided to buy a licence because I deduced that the problem was related to the test copy. As a result the problem is still present. Currently my configuration is made as follow:

- Rasperry PI as server ( USB RTL-SDR dongle attached ) and a Window 10 or Linux computer as client .

Spending a lot of time to try to solve the problem I obtained a mitigation working on SDR softaware settings. I had to decrease at the minimum the input SDR Dongle sampling.

Is there a solition on Virtualhere software in order to use my USB RTL-SDR dongle without any bad compromise?

Thank you in advance.

It should work ok, e.g here is an example https://www.rtl-sdr.com/using-the-virtualhere-usb-server-for-remote-rtl…

You must be using ethernet for all the connections. And also its better if you use a pi4 if you have one of those. The Pi3 boards have the ethernet and the USB share the same port so there is congestion. Whereas the pi4 has its own dedicated ethernet port and dedicated usb port. They dont share bandwidth.

Hello Michael,
first of all let me thank you for very quick answer. I apologize to reply you only now!!
I really appreciated the web link you shared me where it is possible to see it works.
I tried all your suggestions connecting both end point on lan by ethernet but nothing happen.
I repeated the experiment installing Virtualhere server on a Linux computer HP 255 G4 Notebook, CPU AMD E1-6010, HDD 500 GB, RAM 4 GB ( I think it has more power of a Raspberry PI3 ) and using lan ethernet but I still have the problem.
I really dont know what can be do to have it working!!!

I dont know sorry seems like it should work, what exact dongle do you have? Does it have a RTL2832U chip?

Maybe you are using old firmware on the dongle or something? Is there an update program you can try
