VirtualHere and OpenMediaVault

Hello!

one quick question: i use openmediavault on a raspberry 3 as nas server. it is configured that my hdd spins down after a short time. i wanna use virtualhere with a dongle on the same usb hub as the hdd.

does the virtualhere server change the settings of openmediavault hdd management especially the spin down time? in my case i think the hdd was permanently active after virtualhere server installation? are there special settings?

No, virtualhere does not change anything about existing usb devices attached to the server.

You should not share your HDD over virtualhere (i.e dont click Use in the client for that device) if you dont want virtualhere to control it, but everything else should be fine.

strange. I have installed it again, and now i use a second hub which is in my raspberry pi 3. My Hdd does not spin down.. always blinks and spins. .that is strange.
normally my hdd should only be active when used..

Another Intersting aspect.
i have used the instructions here for installing the software on the pi via ssh:

ssh to your raspberry pi
wget https://www.virtualhere.com/sites/default/files/usbserver/vhusbdarmpi3
sudo chmod +x ./vhusbdarmpi3
sudo mv vhusbdarmpi3 /usr/sbin
wget http://www.virtualhere.com/sites/default/files/usbserver/scripts/vhusbd…
sudo chmod +x ./vhusbdpin
sudo mv vhusbdpin /etc/init.d
sudo update-rc.d vhusbdpin defaults
sudo reboot

i used vhusbdarmpi3 as i have read on the page that there is that optimized software for raspberry pi 3. great!

now when i sudo reboot, my raspberry wont reboot but stay silent, until i hard reset it with unplugging and replugging the power chord.

that is also strange. no?

please help, thx ree

Does your HDD provide the root file system? If so , virtualhere would use the HDD because it writes data to config.ini every 15sec or so

The script vhusbdpin has the binary name "vhusbdarm" in there, you need to change it to vhusbdarmpi3 as explained in the script. You can quickly do that like this:

sudo sed -i -e 's/vhusbdarm/vhusbdarmpi3/g' /etc/init.d/vhusbdpin

Hello Michael. Thank you so much.
i have executed the line above via ssh and will test it in the next hours.

if i would buy the license for 3 usb devices, is it possible to upgrade, if i need more later?

for safety reasons: just some questions:
can you confirm that steinberg elicenser and ilok is fully supported? (that would be my main reason for buying the license)
i ask because i just made a quick test (before applying the line of your last post via ssh) and i was able to open cubase, but had strange behavior when i tried to add an instrument to a new track (it didnt show up) - never had that problem before..

Best wishes and thank you very much. Rene
