Has anyone connected to a camera with Capture One software over VirtualHere?

I'm trying to get the program Capture One to recognize and connect to a Canon camera as if it were connected (tethered) locally using VirtualHere. Has anyone been able to accomplish this before?

I think it works as i have a lot of users who tether cameras via virtualhere. The server should be a pi (or any linux based server) and the client should be a windows pc. Any other combination might not work

Hi Michael, first let me say thank you for developing this very cool piece of software and for taking the time to interact with and solicit feedback from users.

I got the opportunity to try Capture One on a Win10 PC. Server was a NanoPi NEO3 running Armbian. Camera was a Canon 1DX Mark iii connected with a USB-C to 3 tether cable. It was all very easy to get running and worked without a hitch. (It was definitely slower than being directly connected via USB, I'd say by a factor of two or three based on my rudimentary stopwatch photo-burst tests.)

It's pretty nifty, because with nothing but a NEO3, a portable charger, and a cord cover, you can essentially have a very portable, inexpensive and durable USB to Ethernet converter for your camera, enabling you to tether far greater distances.

Now for the downside: on pretty much every set that I've been on for the past 15 years that I've worked in the photography industry, Macs are the standard machine that I've encountered. I frequently use my clients' gear when I work, and every one is substantially invested in the Mac ecosystem. When I first heard about VirtualHere I was pretty excited that I'd potentially discovered a major breakthrough for my line of work, but without Mac support, it's really not of any use unfortunately.

I realize that Apple makes certain things difficult for developers, but I would urge you to take another look at the feasibility of supporting modern day MacOS. A similar tool, the TetherTools Air Direct also had major compatibility issues when Catalina came out, but they just released an update that restored functionality, so I have hope that there are (possibly brand new) ways around these issues. I hope you'll take it into consideration. I can think of many peers of mine who would be eager to utilize such a tool.
