Pre-sales query

Hi,

My apologies if this has been explicitly asked before (and Multiple Simultaneous Devices | VirtualHere may be an answer) but I wanted to know if what I would like to do is supported/possible before I purchase extra hardware to try? Your software may be the solution to extreme frustration here. Sorry if it's a bit of a confusing question but I'll try to elaborate....

Short version

If I use a GL.iNet GL-AR300M16 (which I believe supports multiple USB connections) flashed with your firmware will multiple devices plugged into it via a hub it be accessible as separate devices accessible at the same time on one client PC?

I have ethernet for a wired network so would it work with the ethernet going into the GL.iNet GL-AR300M16 and then continuing to the client PC; the cable out of the GL-AR300M16 acting as netwotk access for the client PC.

Longer version

I am currently being driven demented by USB issues with the following setup in my telescope observatory

4/5 devices

1) Dome (USB connection but the hardware is a FTDI virtualUSB)

2) Weather monitor (connected by FTDI virtual USB port)

3) Telescope mount (USB connection but the hardware is a Silicon Labs virtualUSB)

4) keyboard and mouse using a USB over ethernet cable extender

all items then connect to a powered hub and then to the main PC (that's on the telescope). I haven't tracked down the cause as each device is fine but wonder if it's some power/distance issue. The obvious candidate is number (4) but this is the most stable. Drop outs can happen immediately or it is fine for a day or so and then all devices will drop out. It is too unreliable to trust as it stands. (I've tried differnt hubs/cab;es/ports etc etc)

I can't use the USB over ethernet cable extender as I would have to dismantle everything to feed in new cables  as it is just too much work (lifting 60kg telecopes).

Best wishes,

Paul

Yes

Yes in the cloudhub configuration select I want this cloudhub to be part of an existing network.

and then continuing to the client PC; the cable out of the GL-AR300M16 acting as netwotk access for the client PC.

No, the cloudhub gl-arm300m16 will not work as a bridge. Your client pc needs to connect to the network some other way. E.g wifi

Michael,

Ok, partial success.

I've flashed the GL-AR300M16 with your firmware. It works perfectly with a USB drive plugged directly into the device (impressed at how easy it is) but....

  • USB hub does nothing (tried 2 and different cables)
  • Arduino (nano and mega) do nothing

is this a failing of the GL-AR300M16 hardware or am I doing anything wrong?

thanks,

Paul

I had a USB drive plugged in the plugged in a USB hub then plugged in an Arduino. The log does show events of plugging in but not disconnecting the USB hub and arduino but the client never showed the last 2 as being plugged in.

I double checked with my GL-AR300M16 and im sure hubs work fine. So it might be your actual hub

I flashed the latest cloudhub firmware to a stock firmware GL-AR300M16 and plugged a normal unpowered 4 port USB hub (Belkin USB 2.0 Hub) and plugged arduino, iLok, serial adapter and USB disk and all showed up fine in the virtualhere client and can be used remotely with no trouble.

What exact hub are you using?

Michael,

After searching the forum I have solved it. I was connecting to the GL via wireless. When I plugged it into the ethernet switch with a cble it worked.

I've put a paymrnt through and will wait for a license.

thanks
