Dongle Problem under Linux

Hi Michael

I have a problem that isn't directly related to virtualhere, but maybe someone can help me. I'm hosting an Abadoneware game. I'd like to get it running on Linux. The server is already running on Linux and dont need a Dongle.

I have a few clients running Windows in ESXi and baremetal, and the dongle works great there. Whether they're connected directly to the host or under virtualhere.

I've tried various things on Linux. One was the dongle directly on the host, the other was a dongle emulator, which didn't work either. Now I've tried Virtualhere. According to the GUI, the dongle is connected, but it's not reaching the client. Dongle support for the simulator is even integrated directly into newer kernels, but I can't get it to work. Apparently, someone here was able to get it to work. However, the developer said it's already built into the kernel, so there's no need to compile it.

I know it's not exactly a virtualhere topic, but maybe you have an idea what else I could do. I first tried Debian and KDE, then Enveadour OS whit KDE, which I prefer. If that worked, I could finally do without my Windows installations. I've tried everything. The game runs under wine, but the dongle isn't recognized. I use Lutris/Wine.

Greetings and thanks

Martin

It doesnt work when you try to use the dongle under wine, that is the problem, it was hard to understand

Thats probably because an exe calls windows driver related functions which i think are totally disconnected in WINE/Linux.

The entire kernel  and driver model between Windows and Linux is completely different, so running things under Wine that requires any sort of custom driver is impossible.

I havent been keeping up with the latest news on Wine but i think it cant use any windows drivers.

Okay, ty.

I think, is possible. At least with the dongle emulator, I managed to get the transmitter recognized. And according to the link above, it should work with the original dongle too.

I spent weeks tinkering with it about a year ago, but I'd never gotten that far before. We'll see, maybe I'll get away from Windows after all.

But I also asked in Linux forums, since it's not a virtualhere issue. I just thought you might have a solution. Why everything always has to end in a forceps delivery for me.

Greetings and thanks
