OSX 10.10.5 - iLok - not working...HELP!

Hi there!

I have been trying in vain to get this to work with my Macs in the studio. Here's the setup:

Main Mac:
8 core 2008 Mac Pro running USB Server, connected to network over Ethernet, via BT Home Hub 5. My iLok is plugged into the back of the Mac...

Mobile Mac:
Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013 running USB Client, connected to network over WiFi, via BT Home Hub 5.

I can see the iLok in the client. I choose the iLok. It gives me the warning about 'disconnecting and reconnecting'. I unplug the iLok from the main Mac. I then try to 'use' the iLok from my mobile mac, but still get the same message. I must be missing something really simple. I have trawled thru lots of info, but I can't see anything wrong. Please help to make me sane again! Hahaha!

Best,

Andy.

The way you use an ilok is to plug it into your server, then use it at a single client on the network. If you need to use it at another client, you must physically replug the iLok at the server. Then you can use the iLok at another client on the network. Do not use the iLok on the server at any time, otherwise the "disconnect/reconnect..." message will appear.

When the iLok is communicated with it remembers the computer that is using it. So if you try to use it at another computer without a power-cycle it will figure out its running at a different computer.

My guess is your server is running the iLok software or something that is communicating with the iLok.

There is another way to get around this iLok issue. If you use a usb hub that properly implements port power control you can switch of power on single usb ports - this is the same as unplugging the iLok.
Works fine with a "D-Link DUB-H7 7-port USB 2.0 hub" (old silver version).
Maybe you could implement a way to trigger from the client a power off/on cycle on the server hub.

Actually you can also send the power on/off command to the individual port by doing the following

Right click on the iLok and select "Custom Event Handler..." then type

port=off

If the usb hub is correctly wired it will power OFF the port. Then to turn the power back on do the same thing but enter

port=on

and it should switch back on.

Most hubs dont support individual port power commands so this method will only work for the minority
