Hi!
I have a problem that didn't exist just a few days ago.
I recently upgraded CPU in the PC that functions as VirtualHere Server, from 3900X to 5700X3D. Should be irrelevant but I'm mentioning it nonetheless.
Alongside that hardware change, I finally made the jump from Windows 10 Pro to Windows 11 Pro. This is my first venture with Windows 11 on a personal computer at home.
As usual with Microsoft, something went terribly wrong. The most fun leisure activity I have been doing - split-screen co-op gaming using two PCs on one monitor - no longer functions!
VirtualHere USB Client on the other (Windows 10) Client PC instantly rejects and disconnects the Xbox 360 Pad device instead of establishing a stable connection to that gamepad from the Windows 11 Server PC that's sharing it.
It worked fine when the server was Windows 10, but it instantly crashes and burns with Windows 11. Everything seems to be reset to default settings on both Server and Client and I tried some stuff but I keep banging my head against the wall and it just disconnects instantly every time.
Here are the logs I am getting:
2025-05-04 00:34:04 ERROR :Error 13 in line 167, The data is invalid. (0x0000000d)
2025-05-04 00:34:06 INFO :Device 14 [045e:028e] BOUND to connection 1
2025-05-04 00:34:06 INFO :Executed empty hook for onReset.045e.028e
2025-05-04 00:34:08 INFO :Device 14 [045e:028e] SURPRISE UNBOUND from connection 1
2025-05-04 00:34:08 INFO :Unmanaging device 14 [045e:028e]
2025-05-04 00:34:08 INFO :Found Full speed device [045e:028e] "©Microsoft Corporation, Controller" at address 14
and that's that. Every time, effectively the same kind of logs are spit out for the Server side of things.
It's just a plain wired Xbox 360 Controller and it worked perfectly on the Windows 10 operating system, how hard can this be to fix? :(
.
Does the virtualhere server from the Microsoft Store work?
Does the virtualhere server from the Microsoft Store work?
That just says "This product is not currently available, try again later" when I open its supposed app page in the Microsoft Store - the GET button is greyed out. EDIT: Oh I get it, I probably can't install stuff from Windows Store because I'm currently using not-activated Windows while just testing out Windows 11 (before I commit to the Win11 license) so I only have a local account.
I was using the portable VirtualHere server .exe for Windows 64-bit from VirtualHere website, and it used to work fine on Windows 10
.
Ive found a workaround for this, it might take a day or two (its a public holiday today) to implement. I will post here when its ready for testing...
.
Take your time, thank you. I appreciate any attempts to help fix this issue!
.
Can you download and try this beta build of the server https://www.virtualhere.com/sites/default/files/usbserver/test/vhusbdwinw64.exe
(You will need to click Use twice at the moment to get it to work)
.
Absolutely. I just tried it!
Indeed, I had to perform the "Use" action in the context menu twice. I also noticed the device is now by default called 'Controller' rather than 'Xbox 360 Pad'.
But I digress. The first time I performed "Use" action it disconnected as per usual, but when I shortly after performed "Use" action a second time, the Controller device connected just fine. Tthe controller shows up in Windows' controller device list/properties, and it functions properly in-game.
It has been around ten minutes and it hasn't disconnected or anything like that.
Now the Server logs look as follows:
2025-05-07 11:28:59 ERROR :Error 13 in line 169, The data is invalid. (0x0000000d)
2025-05-07 11:29:01 INFO :Device 2 [045e:028e] BOUND to connection 1

OK great, i will try to fix the use twice issue...

@Niuw3 actually that is a good idea, i think i can fix more problematic devices like this the same way i did with the xbox controller, I'll investigate more....

@Niuw3 can you download the beta server again from here https://www.virtualhere.com/sites/default/files/usbserver/test/vhusbdwinw64.exe

Still the same, could it be that the server file was not updated? I see that is the same built (Built: May 7 2025, 18:53:53)
Thanks for the quick response again!

Sorry try downloading it again.
It should have a build-date of (Built: May 8 2025, 15:56:42)

Hey sorry was out in the weekend, YES is working! Just one thing I had to do the 2 time click on USE because first one gives the same error but the second time it works.
EDIT: Now it worked on the first.
Thanks!
