Cache SSD of QNAP shown

Hi,

in my QNAP TS-653Pro I have a SSD as cache for my QNAP. It is and must not be used by other stuff.

When I look at the Windows Client of VirtualHere I see a device called IUM01-512MFHS this seems to be my 512GB caching SSD. When I connect to this device I get a message from Windows if I would format it. That means I'm really able to connect to my QNAP hard drive configured as caching disk.

That's very bad, because if I connect in mistake this device I would be able to destroy the data on my QNAP!

I already contacted the support of QNAP there I was told it's not a problem of QNAP it's one of VirtualHere. That's why I open this support request here.

Hi Wolfgang, thanks for the info. I dont have that nas to test with so i didnt know that was shown. Can you right click on that device and tell me the Vendor ID and Product ID and ill update the virtualhere server so it doesnt show that device in the list.

Hi Michael,
thanks for your feedback here the wished data:
Vendor ID: 0x125F
Product ID: 0x601A

But would this then not only suppress a SSD from this type? If someone has an other type of SSD would have the same problem? Or if I would connect the same SSD via USB I would not see it?
Regards Wolfgang

Ah OK, i thought this was built-in to the qnap so everyone sees it, but actually if you've put this disk in yourself then there is no change needed. You just need to right click on it and select 'Ignore" and it will not be shown then and you cannot accidentally select it.

You're right it's dependent on what you put into your QNAP. It's a usual SSD put into the normal slot of my QNAP. It's not build in.

I don't understand why it is recognized by the VirtualHere server part.

I know that I can ignore it, but then it looks like I ignore all SAMSUNG SSDs of this type - maybe in future I want to use such a disk via USB.

My guess is the way qnap have designed their qnap nas, they probably have a SATA to USB adapter inside, which makes the device a usb device and hence you can see it in virtualhere.

That's really possible. Couldn't you try to find together with QNAP a solution?

For me at home I can live with that - but I don't like. At the company I work I never would by such a device it's too dangerous to loose data. That's a absolutely no go.

No, just ignore it, its quite simple. right click the device and ignore. Or uninstall virtualhere and dont use it?
