USB failed to connect

Hello,

I'm trying to get a USB dongle connected over IP however the software probably has some troubles with it. It is a Z-wave dongle from Aeon Labs (Aeon Labs DSA02203-ZWEU Z-Wave Z-Stick Series 2).

dmesg says the following:

I can successfully connect other devices through the software. The USB stick also works fine on a local server.
Can you please look into it, I just purchased the license and would like to use it.

Regards.

a Synology NAS (DS214+). The client is indeed Linux (Ubuntu LTS 14.04)

#4

I will make a new build of the linux client over the next day or two with more detailed debugging. I think the "enumeration" is not occuring for that device for some reason. But more detailed messages will give a clue what part is failing...

#5

I need to buy this device so i can test locally...will take about 1 week or so to receive and test....

#6

Okay thanks for the information. Let me know if I can help in some way.

Ive got the zwave and have been testing. It works fine in windows (using HomeGenie) however i can reproduce the issue in linux. They are using a silabs driver and the CP2102 chipset. For comparison i plugged in an FTDI serial to usb chip and that worked fine in 14.04 So at this stage i think it could be a bug in either the silabs cp2102 driver or the usbip kernel module. For the time being you might have to use windows running in a virtual machine to interact with the zwave until this problem is resolved..

Hi. I have the same problem with the Z-wave dongle from Aeon Labs. Running Pi with Raspbian as a server and linux as client. Just bought a license, and only found this support thread after searching when the Aeon dongle did not work nicely while my other USB devices did. Do you have any further ideas on how we can get the Aeon dongle to work with Virtualhere? Thanks.

You must use windows.

However updating to the linux latest kernel would be useful as hopefully the bug in the kernel will eventually get fixed

I apologize for such a long post, but I'm trying to describe my situation.

I've got a similar scenario to Falcon's; HOwever, my Aeon Labs Aeotec Z-Stick S2 controller is in Alaska and I cant get to it for another month. It is currently plugged directly into a Windows PC and it works fine, showing up as a serial device on COM4.

I've built a Raspberry Pi B+ and installed VirtualHere to use as a USB server for hosting the controller. I tested it with a simple USB Cruzer flash drive and that works fine, but I wont be able to test with actual the controller until I get to AK. Once there, I'll plug the Z-Stick into the Pi and use VirtualHere to send the data across the network to the Windows machine.

So, the big question.... does this sound like this will work?

I'll only have about 10 days in AK to complete the project, and my concern is needing additional hardware/software to get it to work.

Thanks in advance,
Chris

Yes it will work. Just make sure you dont have huge latency (ping times) and it should be fine.

What would be considered high latency? I ask because if all goes well, phase two will be to move the windows PC to the cloud. I can use that info to help decide if that is a viable option.
Thank you so much for the reply.

The baud rate on the COM port is set to 9600. Would this mean I could tolerate a higher latency?

#17

The Port is connected but then disconnects.

I want to have a working solution, otherwise i will cancel my payment for the premium license.

Ok, it is over two years since the last post to this thread and I was wondering if there have been any updates.. Specifically, will the Aeotec Z-Stick Series 2 now work with some release of Raspian?

However, on another front, does the Z-Stick GEN5 work with Raspian. The Gen5 uses the UZB drivers instead of the silabs drivers and I believe it is supported in Raspian.

I dont know, i dont have the device to test with but it would probably work, raspbian is pretty good now with kernel 4.14
