I have a rpi 4 that I am currently using the demo mode of this on to great effect. I would like to buy the license to to remove the restrictions.
However I have had mixed luck over the years and am distrustful of SD cards and their longevity. My concern as it relates to this is if I buy the license and some point down the road I need to get a new SD card and set it up from the top, I am worried if the license will activate or if it will see it as a whole new device(as my understanding is the license is locked to the first device it is used on) ???

Thats fine, the license is locked to the pi hardware, not the sd card. So you can change the sdcard/reformat etc no problems and the license will still work.
