There was an error using this device

Hi,

I have the server on a McBook Pro running High Sierra, and the client on a Mac Pro running Mojave. When I try to use the NexiGo N930AF FHD Webcam that's plugged into my MacBook Pro, I get the "There was an error using this device" message.

Thanks!

Tom

In the virtualhere server click Settings...->View Server log. Does it show any error there?

#3

Hey Michael. I feel like I'm missing something obvious. Now I can't even get the server to run. I double click, and nothing happens. I rebooted, same thing.

#4

The server normally appears up the top near the clock in osx. Do you see it there? Maybe look in Finder->Utilities->Console and see if there is a vhusbdosx process crashed

#5

There used to be an icon in the menu bar at the top by the bluetooth icon and clock, but it isn't there anymore. I searched for vhusbdosx in the console and nothing came up. Thanks.

#6

I don't know sorry, basically i haven't heard of this before. Normally you just click on the VirtualHere Server icon and it runs and if you dont see the window is it up as an icon at the top right near the clock in OSX.

#7

Could I delete it and reinstall it and see what happens? What could possibly go wrong? :)

#8

Sure, give that a try

#9

I reinstalled it, and now I have access to the log. I can post everything in the log if you need it, but this is what happened when I tried to access the camera:

Thanks for the info. Is there any chance that another program is using the camera at the moment on the server? Try closing all the programs you can on the server and see if it can release the webcam. Or otherwise just plug the camera into a raspberry pi running virtualhere server, or something like that and it should work fine.

Hey Michael,

Just out of curiosity, I installed the server software on my 2015 MacBook Pro running Mojave. The only usb device connected is the camera. I also have a card in the built-in card reader. I tried to connect with my Mac Pro and got the same error. Here is the full log file:

OK unfortunately OSX is just not going to let virtualhere grab it... its not going to work via virtualhere.
