Error 2 determining port, make sure the usbip kernel module is loaded

Forums

Hi Michael,

I am having an issue with a cloud-based Ubuntu 64-bit install that I am trying to use.

I can start the virtualhere client, it connects to the server, but as soon as I try to "use" a device, I get the following message:

21:25:47 INFO :VirtualHere 2.4.7 starting (Compiled: Sep 25 2014 01:42:45)
21:25:47 INFO :Using config at /home/ec2user/.vhui
21:25:47 INFO :IPC available at /tmp/vhclient
21:25:58 ERROR :Error 2 determining port, make sure the usbip kernel module is loaded

uname -a gives:

Request for Debian 7 (Wheezy) Client

Forums

Hello Michael,

could you please provide client binaries for Debian Wheezy (i386, amd64)?
You already have the binaries for the server.

On Debian Wheezy there is no dynamic library libusbip available.
There is only the package libusbip-dev which only provides are static version of the library.

Thanks,
Christian

USB HID device (card reader) not working

Forums

I've been trying to get a USB card reader working with VH installed on a RPi. This is the first device I've tried that hasn't worked right off.
The device shows up in the client and I can connect to it. It just doesn't transfer any data. I have the OEM drivers installed and I know that they can communicate with the card reader (the device beeps when I initialize it) but I can't get it to return any data through the driver or as a straight HID keyboard.

Further to this I just tried a generic USB keyboard and I couldn't get it to work either.

Any thoughts?

usb disc des not show up in finder (macosx client and raspberry pi server)

Forums

Hi,
just installed the raspberry pi virtualhere server but cannot get it to work with the MacOs client.

The reason I installed VirtualHere was to get around broken USB ports on a MBP. However, on the Macbook Pro running MacOs 10.9.4, the client does see the disc and I can "use" the disc, but it does not show up in the finder.

The syslog on the server shows the use and on first inspection there are no error messages. The raspberry pi runs rasbian and has been fully updated, as that was suggested as a solution in these forums on a seemingly related MacOs issue.

Problem
Sometimes one can establish a connection with the scanner but often not. It is really a trail-on-error happening. Are you lucky to have an connection, the result of the scanner is poor and not usable (various gray bars on scan).
I was very enthusiastic about VirtualHere but it dropped dramatically fast and for me not usable at this stage.
